Items.DAT is an encoded file that can be found in the games resources. It is encoded using ECB mode BLOWFISH-Compat with the code "mothking".
The file contains information about all items, including ones not added or not implemented in the game. In Xbox/PS4/Mobile versions, the item sprites are totally different than the PC/Mac versions (ex. Upgraded tools).
This page is mainly for reference and to see all (un)implemented items.
Outdated File
The included file is from an outdated version of the game and some items may have been changed or removed.
The new file format no longer uses the included encryption noted above; it instead checks the number of characters in the file to determine validity. If you want to edit items.dat you need to keep the length (in characters) the same as the unedited version or it will not work.
File format
- Illegal: Pretty obvious. 1 for illegal.
- Gift: The amount of opinion increased when given to an inmate. The opinion given is the number displayed times three.
- Decay: The percentage out of 100 that is removed when the item is used.
- Info: The flavor or description text the item has.
- Desk: Whether or not the item is spawned in desks. 1 for true, 2 for rare but true(usually for contraband items).
- NPC_carry: Whether or not this item is spawned in the inventory of NPCs. 1 for true.
- FAT: The amount of fatigue removal this item gives.
- Buy: The standard price the item can be bought for. The price goes up and down based on the trader's opinion level (needs confirmation).
- Craft: The number immediately displayed is the intelligence level required to craft the item. It then displays the required materials to craft it as it appears in crafting notes.
- HP: The amount of health points restored after using this item.
- Weapon: The weapon level of the item.
- Cutting, Chipping, Digging, Unscrewing: The level at which it performs the task
- Ability: The ability of the weapon.
